Celebrating School Board Recognition Month

The month of January is dedicated to celebrating our school board members and the vital role they play within our schools. Thank you to school board members who work with educators, parents, and community members to build a caring, collaborative learning environment for students. We appreciate and acknowledge the hard work and extra hours voluntarily dedicated to our education system and their passion for making our schools a better place.

What is a school board member?

School board members are locally elected public officials entrusted with governing a community's public schools. Their role is to ensure school districts are responsive to their communities' values, beliefs, and priorities.

Ways to promote school board appreciation in the community:

  • Plan a board member recognition event.
  • Promote school board appreciation in the community by asking your PTA to place a thank you in the local newspaper or on your school's website.
  • Educate students and community members on the school board's role within our schools.
  • Have students and teachers create thank-you notes for board members within their schools.
