At all times, excellence is the achievable goal.
Having a significant curricular emphasis on the
performing and visual arts, the Paul Laurence Dunbar Academy combines
the proven benefits of an arts-based curriculum while fully integrating
a core curriculum based on Ohio’s Academic Content Standards, addressing
and improving “traditional” academic skills.
The Academy’s curriculum is fully integrated and
cross-disciplinary with its basis in the research of Kathleen Harris,
Sonoma State University. The course work is designed to be inquiry
based and student centered.
The Academy’s curriculum has been designed to benefit
from and to foster educational expertise on the part of the teaching
staff. Kindergarten and first grade are self-contained classrooms while
teachers, with especially developed skills or interests in the four core
subjects, are responsible for teaching the subject in which they are
most adept to students in the upper grades.
Students
The Paul Laurence Dunbar Academy is open to the public
and offers educational opportunities for students in kindergarten
through sixth grade. Students are required to be residents of Ohio.
