Ohio Connections Academy is based on the philosophy that
learning through technology can help each student maximize his/her
educational potential. Dedicated to teaching to the individual learner,
Ohio Connections Academy team members assist with the development of a
Personalized Learning Plan for each child. The plan is then fulfilled
by the student with the support and full encouragement of their learning
mentors – parent(s) or other learning coach and an Ohio certified
teacher.
A critical component of Ohio Connections Academy’s
plan for student achievement and academic excellence is the
establishment of clear, realistic, measurable academic and non-academic
goals. The Academy’s measurable academic goals include:
 | Mastery of Learning Objectives – Student mastery
of pre-determined learning objectives in core subject areas outlined
for each grade level and aligned with the Ohio Academic Content
Standards; |
| Student Progress – Based on a value-added model
of academic growth, each student will demonstrate a year of academic
growth for a year in school. While not every child will start or
end the year at the same place on the ladder, it is hoped that each
will climb the same number of rungs. |
| Personalized Learning – The Ohio Connections
Academy team believes each student deserves an individualized
approach to instruction. To that end, each student works with
certified instructors and learning coaches to “plan” the work and
then work the plan”. |
Measurable non-academic goals include:
| Parental Involvement – Parents/Guardians will
work with teachers as true partners in the planning and delivery of
their child’s instructional program; |
| Attendance – Each student at Ohio Connections
Academy maintains attendance as an important goal and strives for a
perfect record; |
| High Quality Instruction - The Ohio Connections
Academy team is dedicated to delivering the highest quality
instruction and delivery of academic program materials to each
student through their pre-determined and agreed-upon individualized
academic plan; |
| School Community - The Ohio Connections Academy
staff and board members believe the highest level of academic
outcomes are produced when students gain a sense of community being
built in a virtual learning environment. Through partnerships with
parents and teachers, student learning outcomes will thrive. |
