Columbus Preparatory Academy (CPA)
is a school of classical education. With a solid focus on literature,
arts, history, and language, students will be immersed in a
high-standards, supportive environment that encourages independent
research and mastery of the spoken and written word. An emphasis on
classical education fits seamlessly with Paragon’s core design resting
on the Socratic method and the investigation of “grand ideas” throughout
the ages.
The Academy implements two
compatible curriculums that embody the vision of teaching and learning
the school’s mission. The morning session of school is devoted to the
Core Curriculum, with intensive uninterrupted study of Literature,
Phonics, Spelling, SRA Mathematic, and Science Anytime. Math and
Science are taught as discrete subjects. The afternoon session consists
of the Paragon Curriculum, a Humanities Curriculum that covers the
following: Social Studies; History; Philosophy; Science; Visual and
Dramatic Arts; Communications; Foreign Language; Entrepreneurship;
Character Development; Mathematics; Music; and Physical Education.
These subjects are integrated in conceptual monthly themes organized
around the chronological history of world culture.
