Opened August 2004

The Columbus Arts and Technology (CAT) Academy offers the Paragon and Core Curriculums along with a specific focus on Arts & Applied Technology.  Partnerships with community artists are established to create mentoring programs and to develop appreciation and recognition for the local arts.  There are heightened opportunities in the performing arts, with students extending their work of Paragon thematic performances to larger productions with more intensive study on the history of the performing arts.  Intensive focus is also placed on curriculum-wide integration of technology in all aspects of learning history, conducting research and designing performance productions.

The Academy implements two compatible curriculums that embody the vision of teaching and learning the school’s mission.  The morning session of school is devoted to the Core Curriculum, with intensive uninterrupted study of Literature, Phonics, Spelling, SRA Mathematic, and Science Anytime.  Math and Science are taught as discrete subjects.  The afternoon session consists of the Paragon Curriculum, a Humanities Curriculum that covers the following: Social Studies; History; Philosophy; Science; Visual and Dramatic Arts; Communications; Foreign Language; Entrepreneurship; Character Development; Mathematics; Music; and Physical Education.  These subjects are integrated in conceptual monthly themes organized around the chronological history of world culture.
