The OCCS authorizing process currently consists of three formal phases.

Phase One

Once a proposal has been received, it will be thoroughly reviewed by an OCCS team followed by an interview of school representatives and a potential presentation to council members. Once approved by council members, applicants are invited to apply for phase II.

Phase Two

Following approval at Phase One, applicants receive a letter outlining the additional information council members want to review prior to a vote at Phase Two.  Staff review and interviews follow and a potential presentation to the council is made. Once approved, schools are then eligible for state start up funding. If approved, applicants move into phase III.

Phase Three

Phase Three is contract negotiation and approval.  However, council approval at Phase One and Phase Two does not necessarily guarantee a successful vote of the OCCS to approve the negotiated charter contract.

Our Charter Schools

Receiving support and authorization from OCCS is not as simple as A-B-C. Our schools must pass an intense and rigorous multi-phased review process. We examine everything from educational qualifications and intended curriculum to financial stability and contingency planning. OCCS is determined to provide only the best and most qualified learning opportunities to your child, making his or her educational experience rich and effective.

It's about choice...

It all comes down to choice. School choice is the right choice for children. And OCCS is the right choice for Ohio.
